Sir— Philadelphia 9 August 1793 This moment your Letter of the 9 July— (August it should be) is put into my hand. Am glad to hear that the last remittance of three thousand Dollars had safely reached you— the former remittance and [the] information from yourself had safely arrived— The last paragraph of your letter surprises me— I have not yet seen your Letter to the Secretary of War, thus far am left to wonder, what the Q.M.General complains of— from hence all his requisitions, which are ample, have gone forward— and you I am sure will not detain them— notwithstanding the great difficulty of procuring transportation— The whole of the Q.M.Genls indent is forwarded, together with the Clothing for the Artillery, the Cavalry and the [undecipherable] Legion including the Rifle Corps belonging to it— and all the marching recruits are also furnished— what more could be done, or rather what more was [undecipherable] whether he intends any of the blame for— I know not— but you know, when I am self unconscious of blame, nothing disturbs me— in the present case [undecipherable] under all circumstances I defy a rival. I now send forward by order of the Secretary of War Two thousand five hundred and eighty one dollars— a further sum I am informed is contemplated, and I am again as I have uniformly advised you that on approved requisitions the Department will always be supplied— And as an invoice of the Clothing, and [undecipherable] forwarded since my last general statement to you— some of the Clothing of the [undecipherable] Legion is also on the road— the remainder well taken as fast as transportation can be procured— the key inclosed belongs to a Chest of Carpenters tools on the road to your address— In a waggon that left this [undecipherable] today is several articles for Doctor [undecipherable] forwarded to the address of [undecipherable] by Major M'Connell, the freight they are to [undecipherable] I shall keep you advised weekly of the progress of the business in the Quarter Masters Department here, and in return I wish to know how it stands with you.
