"this morning to be in readiness to march without delay under the command of Brigadier General Twiggs to the place where [undecipherable] touches Flint River near Buzzard road from thence to the little village known by the name of the Uchees twelve miles below, and to take if possible the head men of that town and bring them safe to Camp, and to be cautious that no damage is done to any of the property of the Indians of that town and to give them every appearance of our peaceable disposition towards them."

Sir
Immediately on the return of the volunteer General Twiggs forwarded a letter to Mr Barnard who resides on Flint river, explanatory of his designs where he entered the Creek nation. the messenger was a sensible half breed, who remained some time in said nation so well to receive Mr Barnards answer, & to gain every information in his power. From the general conduct of the Creek Indians — It would appear that they are not confident in their own strength, nor generally at this period disposed for war. Most part of the nation who profess amity still adhere to their former application for our people to go forward in force to destroy the five criminal towns who have committed murders and outrages — any former opinion on this subject admits of no change. By a sudden stroke at their hostile towns
