Your Letter of the 27 Ulto was presented by Mr Logue. In the Conversation which took place between us you certainly have misapprehended me. I informed you that Part of the Money was collected which was afterwards paid to you by Mr Mellor on your Route to the Western Country.
As the Sums were never in my Possession nor any Part of their Price I cannot by any Means suppose myself responsible.
The first Distribution of Arms was regularly a Rect given to each State to Colo Magaw afterwards they were issued without that [ceremony] and detained in the hands of sundry Persons omitting [strikethrough: that had] declined owning in the Trips [strikethrough: they] obliged. The Business has been repeatedly mentioned to the Party of Colo Magaw but no Steps have yet been taken by them, [with] their Interference I am of Opinion the Money can not be collected.
