Major General Wayne —
Fort Washington
[Private]
My dear Sir War Department 7 June 1793
To the draft of a letter to be written to you by the Commissioners, as mentioned in my letter to you of the 21st of April, it is thought proper to make the following addition which will denote the number of warriors who shall be at the treaty. One Stroke under the address thus Sir will denote one thousand, and so on, one stroke for each thousand.
And after the signatures of the Commissioners, the number of dots will denote the number of hundreds thus . . . each dot being in addition to the thousands intended to denote one hundred.
And it will also be important that you should endeavor by every means in your power to engage some faithful Indians to be present at the treaty to inform you of the
the numbers; for you ought to be acquainted with the numbers you have to combat.
I am my dear Sir
with the highest Esteem
Your humble Servant
