I has written the Letter that accompanies this before I received yours of the 29 instant — the answer is anticipated in mine of the 28th — I suppose you will receive this Day —
I had a conference with the Secretary of War in receipt of your last when your situation was fully considered — the result was as I informed you — I now conclude you will hear from him directly on the subject — Mr Jean [undecipherable] you may depend on — but my system is now very rigid the least departure therefrom subjects me to censure as well as loss — I shall keep you advised of all papers that respects you, and the Public interest committed to you —
