I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your favor of the 7 instant, with its enclosure from Colonel Arthur Campbell, both of which have been submitted to the President of the United States.
The information of Colonel Campbell is directly the reverse of the expectations entertained relatively to the conduct of the Cherokee, which, from the latest information, would have seemed to be of a pacific Nature.
If however they should make the invasion as stated, it would be indispensable to oppose their parties with an adequate force of which as it relates to the frontiers of Virginia your Excellency must be the judge.
The Accountant of the War department did not report until yesterday upon the Accounts of Virginia, owing as he way to the business of the recruiting Officer before him. The bill in behalf of the State for fifteen thousand dollars drawn in favor of John Hopkins will be paid. But
