I have this day Recd your letter of the 28 Ulto as also the Warrants No 40 & 45 amounting with the accompanying Bills to $795 ditto. I/100 — Dr Professor in your calculation of pay that you introduce the fractional parts of a Cent this method of being basing I fear will ultimately lead to Error and prevent the Works from [undecipherable] being [undecipherable] from.
I therefore request you will either entirely omit the fractional parts, or when they may happen to occur allow the fraction to the two thirds of a Cent and drop the one thirds entirely — This method is generally adopted at the Treasury and is [undecipherable] nearly equal —
General Posey will I expect leave this on monday, he will take with the pay of the Troops for [undecipherable] [strikethrough: 1 Months] of February — 3000 dollars on a/c of arrears of Subsistence & 2400 dollars to pay said [undecipherable] [undecipherable] for 90 days in 1793 or may be called into Service below the great Kenhaway.
