[Govr Telfair both end of a letter No [undecipherable] of [undecipherable] May 8^th [undecipherable]] [1^st done d [undecipherable]] Extract of a letter from his Excellency Edward Telfair to the Secretary of War — dated 8^th May 1793 — "The horrid barbarities recently committed have compelled " me to cause the additional aid of six Troops of horse to be drawn " into service to range on the frontiers, and also to establish a " Camp at Shoulderbone to consist of three batallion companies " and I have directed a Gene Officer to repair to the said Camp " to be reinforced as circumstances may require" — Extract of a letter to his Excellency Edward Telfair from the honble Henry Knox Sectry of War, Dated " June 10^th 1793 — " Your letter of the 8^th of May has been received and " submitted to the President of the United States " The State of Georgia being invaded or in eminent danger "thereof the measures taken by your Excellency may be considered " as indispensible, you are the Judge of the degree of danger " and of its duration and will undoubtedly proportion the " defence to exigencies — The President however expresses his " confidence that as soon as the danger which has induced " you to call out so large a body of [strikethrough: the] Troops; Shall have " Subsided that you will reduce the number to the existing " state of [strikethrough: things] — indeed to the number mentioned in my letter " of the 30^th Ultimo — provided the safety of the frontiers will " admit the Measure — The aforegoing are true extracts from the Journal & from the Original on the files of the Executive (signed).
