Description

Copy of deposition given by James Aikin [Aiken], a resident of Creek Nation. Aikins left the Creek Nation when there was no probability of compliance with James Seagrove's demands to turn over the perpetrators of the robbery and murder at Seagrove's brother's store at Traders Hill, St Marys. Aikins notes that the Creeks planned to give up the plunder until Seagrove demanded the perpetrators. Creeks thought Seagrove's demands were too harsh. Chehaws stole cattle from a negro named Regan. Notes that the party that robbed Robert Seagrove's store was part of the Simanola tribe. Burges has said that the stolen goods were sent to Pensascola via boat, along with scalps, and given to the Spanish Governor and William Panton. While traveling to see Seagrove, Aikins stayed at Captain Harrison's house at Carrs Bluff on the Oconee and later at Mr. Barryhill's house. During evening, Indians stole horses. Aikins followed tracks and found someone's son dead and scalped at Francis Pugh's house.
