Your letter of the 25 instant enclosing a further account of payments, and advances to the Army is received
I have long since [strikethrough: written] to Wm Brite to furnish me a list of all the dead of the 1st Regt and artillery, and Balances due them; but nobody has yet arrived here from Fort Washington, since I came of myself. As soon as I can get this return you for have it — Although I was so long at Fort Washington, it was never in my power to obtain but one pay Roll armstrong of the 1st Regt or artillery — Nor a single muster Roll, until the middle of September 1792 when when Clelant the very evening before he set off for Philadelphia, delivered me a parcel of muster Rolls such as they were — these I have delivered up to Brite, And with him the settlement of their accounts for 1791 must finally be made.
Captain Ballard Smiths Company was of the 1st Regt — My Return of the dead is was of the 3d Regt only, and is general as respects that Regiment. — But as I have observed before I never could gain any regular Knowledge of the pay due to the 1 Regt or artillery; and their
their accounts, to me, were always offered in the mysteries set forth to you in the Copy of my letter to General Wilkerson of the 12th September 1792.
I enclose to you, the receipts of Major Thomas Hughes, and my Lieut Lewis Bond, for the pay of their respective Command up to 1 January 1793. These receipts are to be annexed to the Warrants No 10—11—12 and 13, forwarded [strikethrough: with other] to you by the last post.
I am making payments with considerable facility; and I use my best endeavors to finish and transmit to you the Abstracts and warrants for the whole before we [strikethrough: Make] a movement from this plain.
I have this day revised and certified Haskells Rolls up to the 1 Jany 93 — I have stopped 6 dollars, advanced by you to Pter Green's wife. — But I ask Greeno to who whose wife you have advanced 8 [undecipherable]... and John Hager, to whom you have also advanced 8 dollars, do not appear upon his Rolls — Where they are I know not.
It is to be observed that most of the defalters for whom a reward of 10 [undecipherable: dollars] is charged by you — are either hanged, or deferted again
