War Department Accountants Office March 29. 1793 Sir I have rec^d your letter covering the accounts & vouchers of Cap^t Joseph Brock, they are generally in such a situation as [strikethrough: their impossble] not to admit of their passage throug my office exclusive of the insufficiency of the vouchers, it appears, that he charge for Monies advanced to [strikethrough: Ensign] Peter Grayson, for the purpose of Recruiting & also, the Bounty & premium of the [strikethrough: Sunday] men raised & paid by Cap^t Grayson this appears from the vouchers themselves & also from the certificate of M^r Grayson who happen'd to be [strikethrough: in my office] during the examination. from these circumstances I conceive it to be my duty as a [strikethrough: public officer] to direct that the Pay of Cap^t Joseph Brock should be Stop^d untill he is exonerated from the charges
