Sir,
I have received your favor of the first instant.
I am glad to learn the arrival of Doctor Carmichael with the money.
I have written to you that the object for which the Corn planter was requested to come to this City, has been answered by the information from the farmers brother & others who came here.
I am sorry to observe, that sundry persons at Pittsburgh have communicated the case to this City as if the Corn planter was dissaffected to us. But the true state of the case is, that he by his former visits, without authority, from his brethren at Buffalo Creek excited their jealousy — and they sent him a string of wampum tied in the middle, signifying their prohibition of his coming to Philadelphia without leave, tho he has not been able to obtain. — It would be proper that this Statement should circulate in order to prevent those opinions & apprehensions of the Corn planter which might be suggested to his injury.
