Philadelphia 7^th July 1793 Dear Sir On the 6 instant James Hamilton left this for Pittsburg[h] having a charge about six or [s]even hundred weight of family stores loaded by Colonel Purcell to your address. Also twenty half barrels of Powder, ten of which are Rifle, and [t]hree Musket Powder — I have had the whole carefully selected from our whole Stock in the Magazine, carefully packed, and forwarded under such Injunctions of care as induces me to believe that it will go to hand in good order — I have made proof of it, in my common powder proof and found it excellent, yet I would recommend it to you in the present instance, and every Subsequent one, to know for yourself the real state of the Powder forwarded that if from any circumstance it should not on its arrival with you Stand the test of the usual trial, it may be known and reported — Hamilton has also with him a Box containing fourteen hundred & thirty two five and an half inch [f]uzes loaded, primed & capped — They are a part of a much larger number ordered for the Army, the as they have long been prepared I have some doubts of their being in perfect order, this can be readily ascertained by the burning a few of them, and if found to answer they will be an acquisition of not only may be emptied and reloaded Besides these articles he has a Box of Paper for M^r O'Hara; two hundred weight of Sheet Lead; and ten Boxes Musquet Ball — I am, Sir Your Most Obedient Servant [signature: Samuel Hodgdon?] Major Isaac Craig [endorsement notation, right margin]
