War Department Accountants Office Jan^y 25. 1793 Sir I have rec^d you letter of the 18 Ins^t — and now enclose pay roll of Cap^ts Sloughs detachment taken to the 1^st Ins^t in order that you may be enabled to discharge the balance of 59. 60⁹⁰ due thereon — It is has been usual in settling acco^ts of pay if a person entered the Service after the 9^th of a month & lefts prior to the end of some subsequent month to allow [strikethrough: the 10 day] in both months, this method of calculation seems to be contrary to the [strikethrough: System] practice at the Treasury department which is to calculate from the day of entering Service to the [undecipherable] date in any subsequent month without regard to a month having more than 30 days — as from the [strikethrough: the] 10 Jan^y to the 10^th of Feb^y is one month &c on but the day of discharge is to be allowed to that a man [strikethrough: has] entering the 10 of Jan^y & being dis^d. the 10 of Feb^y would be entitled to a month & one day pay — as acco^ts of this department are subject to revision at the Treasury I have to request that in making up the Pay rolls the practice used at the
