I have recd you letter of the 18 Inst —
and now enclose pay roll of Capts Sloughs detachment taken to the 1st Inst in order that you may be enabled to discharge the balance of 59. 6090 due thereon — It is has been usual in settling accots of pay if a person entered the Service after the 9th of a month & lefts prior to the end of some subsequent month to allow [strikethrough: the 10 day] in both months, this method of calculation seems to be contrary to the [strikethrough: System] practice at the Treasury department which is to calculate from the day of entering Service to the [undecipherable] date in any subsequent month without regard to a month having more than 30 days — as from the [strikethrough: the] 10 Jany to the 10th of Feby is one month &c on but the day of discharge is to be allowed to that a man [strikethrough: has] entering the 10 of Jany & being disd. the 10 of Feby would be entitled to a month & one day pay — as accots of this department are subject to revision at the Treasury I have to request that in making up the Pay rolls the practice used at the
