I have this day recd your letter of 1st Inst. with the inclosures —
The embrasements respect General Wilkinson full exist as you have returned it a paymt on accd of his pay, I wish to you write him the circumstances & request his explanation, the paymt on audt to officers who are under your view is entirely improper for me & contrary to the opinion of the Comptroller who says that such matters must be done through the Paymasters by an agent. I several times have written Mr. Britt on this Subject & to which I beg you to refer, & fix the matter immediately as I am determined to cease my interference therein — The bearer Doct. Joseph [undecipherable] Strong Surgeon Mate has recd the pay for the troops for Augt & Sept [undecipherable] amounting by my Estimate —
