(Now Cincinnati) Dear Sir, I have forwarded by General Putnam a small Box addressed to you, containing the Vouchers of the Cloathing, Hospital & [undecipherable] Departments, also the Ledger. There are general Vouchers in the Cloathing & Hospital Departments, which are in the Receipt Book — which I have not forwarded, for some Articles which I delivered by your verbal Order there are no Vouchers; — I should have made out a general Account of each Department that would have shewn at one view, the disposition of the several Articles could I have found leisure time sufficient to have perform'd this, but so far from having time for such purposes — that I am constantly employed in the business of the present Department & find not a moment to spare. Mr Bell spends the greatest part of his time in Kentucky, making his necessary purchases, while I remain at this Post, to transact the business; under these circumstances I hope Sir you will excuse the non performance of what you requested, and I earnestly wished for — You have undoubtedly heard of the skirmish between Major Adair & the Indians — they put [undecipherable] the loss of upwards of 150 Horses: Cap^t. Bingham was in the action, but got off clear. —— General Putnam arrived at this Post on the evening of the 26^th instant, he is in a poor state of health but on the recovery. —— The Commander in Chief has directed General [undecipherable] to [undecipherable] 45,000 Bushels of Grain to be lodged at Forts Jefferson, [undecipherable], Hamilton, by the 8^th of [undecipherable: probable reading April]. the execution of which will cost not a little Money & Industry; Corn is now at this Post 9/ per bushel and upon calculation I do not think we have 6,000 Bushels of Grain at all the Posts —— Nothing further of consequence occurs.
