November 22. 1792.
Sir,
In answer to your letter of the 14 instant —
I am pleased to hear of your late success in recruiting. — You mention that your company is nearly complete. However to guard against any disappointment as to Lieut Lockwood's Recruits, you had better endeavour to encrease your present number of thirty one to Sixty.
I shall order a supply of Clothing for Sixty Recruits to be shipped for Richmond to your address, and you must have some person there to receive it, who is to apply to the Contractor of Supplies at that place to find the means of transporting it to your rendezvous.
The person who has furnished Rations to your recruits is to send forward his Accounts and Vouchers together with a statement of the Money you have advanced him, and they shall be immediately settled and paid. The Vouchers must be according to those contained in the enclos[d] general instructions.
I have no objection that you should remain on the recruiting service until the first of January next provided you can then march your Recruits to Head Quarters.
I have sent forward to Colonel Edward Carrington the Supervisor of the Revenue for the district of Virginia at Richmond two hundred dollars for the Contractor who furnishes you supplies — You will if at Richmond apply to him for the same — if not you will give the person whom you may send for the Clothing a special order to receive it —
I am
Sir
