Boston November 1. 1792.
Dear Sir,
I have the pleasure of writing you from my native Boston, where I arrived on Saturday Evening the 27. Ultimo — and am happy to inform you that I find all my Connexions & Friends in good health, whose chearful Smiles at my presence, not a little heightened my pleasure & Satisfaction after so long an Absence.
I suppose I may wish you Joy by the Arrival of Capt Hodgdon in your City; as my Cousin Doble, who arrived here on the 17 of October informs me, that he set to embark at [undecipherable: Annola?], from which he departed in the Morning of the 7. of September bound directly for Philadelphia — Doble [strikethrough: if he sailed from thence on the morning] of the same day — if the [undecipherable] Captain — [undecipherable] make my respects acceptable to him, if [undecipherable] without doubt informs his good Lady of this [undecipherable]; with my fondest wishes that he may join them to add new Happiness to their Connexion.
Agreeably to the request of Mrs Hodgdon, I have mentioned to your Brother whom I found perfectly in health — her usual wishes — she informs me that the Billet he has already engaged, and that the likeness promised her, at Philadel[phia] Shall be sent So soon as the Business he is engaged
[undecipherable] — is attentive to this [undecipherable] — he also informs me of his intentions to put Arrangements with [undecipherable] & [undecipherable] also in this Town, which is certainly one of the most [undecipherable] in [undecipherable] — [undecipherable] he be enable to establish his [undecipherable] — I have been [undecipherable] of [undecipherable] his [undecipherable] — of this [undecipherable], this [undecipherable] will inform you by the next early Opportunity, and will [undecipherable] to you some [undecipherable] on the [undecipherable] the Town, to [undecipherable] give you.
[undecipherable] it would appear in [undecipherable], he would have [undecipherable] living — [undecipherable] it shall be [undecipherable] if [undecipherable] has a [undecipherable] & not fail in [undecipherable] here, it is almost certain — When [undecipherable] wishes much to know of himself, if this I shall not [undecipherable] what [undecipherable] [undecipherable] to say [undecipherable] — it would certainly be [undecipherable] to [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] just in [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] to [undecipherable] then [undecipherable] Opinion, to say [undecipherable] Boston is all the [undecipherable] for [undecipherable] of this — [undecipherable] not [undecipherable] Christians with [undecipherable] Learning, in all the [undecipherable], art and [undecipherable] branch of its [undecipherable] where, [undecipherable] on this [undecipherable] is [undecipherable] Nation and [undecipherable] has been [undecipherable] [undecipherable] in many Connexion.
As [undecipherable] from my Absence, has [undecipherable] — our [undecipherable] and [undecipherable] are — [undecipherable] — [undecipherable] — [undecipherable] in [undecipherable] [undecipherable] of an [undecipherable] Friends.
