Sir,
The Scouts which have been, or may be called into actual Service, for the defensive protection of the county of Washington, by virtue of the authority contained in my letter to you of the 29th of December last, will in future be paid by the paymaster at head quarters, by warrant from the commander in chief, or commanding general, and monies have been already forwarded for that purpose to pay them up to the 1st of August last.
