Dear Sir
I take this Opportunity to write you and first to Congratulate you on your safe return to Philadelphia, after so dangerous a [undecipherable] & long Tour of Duty - for the Service of your Country. A Happy reward Attend you.
I have a few lines on Business which I doubt not you will Assist me in. Mr Emery my Agent informs me that you was likely to give [undecipherable] all the Assistance you could to forward the Settlement of my Accounts with [undecipherable] Publish, your Aid & Assistance I shall be much Obliged to you for - You have in your Office a Book Copied from [undecipherable] by our [undecipherable] - when with you in Boston which was sworn to by me before Justice Crafts You have Also all the Vouchers for the same as well as my Private account, which is the only one that is Unsettled - And if you will grant Mr Emery a Certificate of what you find Appears Due to me - I think it will help forward the Close of my Affairs - I have sent on the Original Account to Mr Emery which has the Ballance drawn Due me
Due me signed by Mr Knox's own hand, Mr Emery will give you all the Intelligence He can, that you may think Necessary.
To turn to Another matter I would Suggest to you, that I do not know why I should not have the same benefit as Other Officers have Respecting the Half-pay &c You know my services Sir for SEVEN years and without Vanity think I Merit it as well as some other Officers & I wish you would be kind enough to make mention of me to the Auditors. I have lately had the Misfortune of loosing Mrs Hawes - and cannot leave my Family at present otherwise I would personally have waited on you — Not Doubting of your kind Aid & Assistance.
