Col^o Samuel Hodgdon — Pittsburgh October 17^th 1792. — Sir, I have the honor to write by this post to the Secretary of War respecting the necessity of advancing the sum of fifty thousand dollars for use of the Quarter Master Department. You will please to applise for this money and forward it to me, per or as you can, I am of opinion that post Notes in my name would pass very safe by the Post. I wished you have the Denomination that I shall endeavour to regulate, provided you send the [undecipherable] and the since you at[undecipherable] have some bills of your property to the amount of small money you will therefore endeavour to send the [undecipherable] of small and by sixteen fourteen Dollars carriage by a safe conveyance by your means for me the little regulated, finding a compleat bill of the bill which I may have if regulated. The following gold containing list by single Drafters into Blanks. The Drafts may be:     100 of 100 — 10,000     200 of 50 — 10,000     500 of 20 — 10,000     500 of 10 — 5,000     500 of 5 — 2,500     Specie also Gold — 10,000     Dollars and fractions under 2,500 — Dollars 52,000 I now hand in the fee for a few Articles which I beg you will send on.
