Head Quarters Pittsburgh September 13, 1792 Samuel Hodgdon Esq^r Sir, Yours of the 5^th Instant with five Thousand Dollars, is this day received, all perfectly right, except a considerable loss that must be sustained on weighing the gold by detail, On the sum of five thousand, there is a loss of $4.93, for which I see no remedy, as it very necessary that Specie should be sent out and Dollars are too heavy, I shall be more particular in my future Requisitions respecting the Specie that will answer and the necessity of forwarding it by select hands or not. Your agreement with the Secretary of the Treasury relative to the necessity of Specie attendance shall be attended to as particularly as the nature of the business will admit of.
