Philada. Septemr 1st 1792. —
James O'Hara Esqr.
Sir /
I received your letter of the 17th Ultimo. The Letter of Attorney not being enclosed to me as mentioned, and the Secretary of War being out of town at the time it arrived, I had no knowledge of it until after the Departure of the Post. Since then I have received and lodged it with the Secretary of the Treasury, and in consequence thereof have received the Ten Thousand Dollars requested in your letter to Genl. Knox, which I shall forward by the first save conveyance that presents. — If none offers soon, shall send it by a special messenger. —
I wish you had mentioned the kind of money which would be best to remit in. Mr Hamilton wishes me to draw as little Specie as will possibly answer, believing that your wishes and his may be both gratified.
I shall send due mostly of the Money now drawn in Gold, and the other in small bank bills, in future Requisitions will thank you to be [undecipherable] on this — particular.
My powers being similar, I shall conduct your business with the War and Treasury Departments as I did that of Colonel Pickering, when he was Quarter master General.
I shall be happy to hear from you by all opportunities, and you may rest assured of a free and full Communication in return.
I am Sir,
your most Obt. Servt
