Sir,
In the absence of the Secretary of War, who is gone to New Yorke, but expected to return this day; I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter to him of the 17 inthstant, together with the communications from General Putnam Captain Caps &c. and I now transmit you, enclosed, a copy of the Secretary's letter to you dated the 17th Instant.
You have also herewith transmitted you invoices of Clothing, military and hospital Stores sent forward from the 20th to the 23 of August inclusive.
