Dr Mr General — Sir,
I have received your favor of the 20th Instant, and am happy to learn the confidence that you shall be able to perform the duties of your Department in a satisfactory manner.
I am of opinion that Major Craig ought to have the permanent commission of a Deputy Quarter master General. His punctuality, fidelity and industry on field as to be of peculiar importance on the place where he is as he has the charge of receiving and distributing all the public Stores.
I think you may engage good packhorsemen at 15 Dollars besides other provisions, but they ought to be engaged for two or three years, unless sooner discharged.
