[Maj. Genl Knox No 2]
[Jay Max]
Pittsburgh June 15th 1792
Dear Sir,
I arrived at this place yesterday noon, and found every thing quiet, and a small Garrison of about forty recruits under Capt Hughes, which with a corporals command of Dragoons which I brought on with me constitutes the whole force at this post — We have nothing worth communicating except what you will see in the Pittsburgh paper of this day the contractors are sending off six boats with provision, and Stores for Fort Washington tomorrow — but cant more than half load them, on account of the lowness of the water.
I have wrote Gend Wilkinson announcing my arrival at this place, requesting him, to transmit me any material intelligence he may receive, respecting the movements, or intentions of the hostile Indians &c.
May I now request that you will be pleased to forward the recruits from their respective rendezvous the soonest possible, for I really feel awkwardly situated, a General without troops is something semlar to a fish out of water. I also wish to be informed, whether it is the intention of the President, that I should immediately upon the arrival of adnate Escort, proceed to Fort Washington,
