By direction of the Secretary of War I have drawn & forwarded to you Two thousand Dollars in Bank notes, a list of which you will receive herewith — this money you are to Account for with General Singleton, Kaye late Quarter Master General to the Western Army, with whom General Knox informed you are to make Settlement up to the time Captain others was appointed Quarter master General, and this remittance is to enable you to fulfil sundry engagements entered into by you before late Appointments — I will thank you to forward me a Receipt for the Notes by return of the Post (by whom they are forwarded) and cover to the War Office —
