Sir,
Your letter of the 25 of May is received.
I request that you will take measures to prove the shot with accuracy, which are to be delivered by Messrs Turnbull & Marmie for the service of the United States — the mode of payment for the shot will depend upon your Contract — to be paid for, to be taken away, implies an improper distrust — You must certify the quantity proved and received by you, which certificate, Turnbull and Marmie will forward to this Office, together with their account, and on it passing the necessary forms of examination, they will be paid by a warrant on the Treasurer of the United States.
The cloathing for the old troops is preparing, and will be forwarded as soon as the Recruits are cloathed, which is considered of the first importance.
The Quarter Master General set off from hence some days ago, prepared to pay your estimates.
