Pittsburgh 25^th May 1792 Sir M^r Bell & D. M. Govt arrived here on the 21 Instant & Yesterday Set off for Fort Washington & I have forwarded in his Charge, fifty two hundred of lead, one hundred & fifty falling [undecipherable], two Bags [undecipherable] dismounted, seven hundred Ammunition Boxes, [undecipherable] Carriages for Chain. Six hundred pounds [undecipherable], Nails, twenty five [undecipherable], and many other articles that he appeared immediately & the [undecipherable]. Major Smith was prepared to Set off at the Same time but is detained until the Return of a detachment he has Sent in pursuit of a party of Indians that have Crossed the Allegheny River about 25 Miles from this place. This detachment is Expected to Return this Evening. Mess. Humbel & Larimer are here, they are now Casting the Shot and that it must be Inspected, Received over price [undecipherable] at the furnace before it is taken away. They say that the River is now so low, that it must be transported by land before at least 20 Miles, they are Casting four ton of 6 & two ton three lb. Shot, the price at the furnace will be thirty per pound & the Carriage to Pittsburgh [undecipherable] per [undecipherable]. Yesterday the Short Iron Cannon the four [undecipherable] only after I got them to Work & Casting [undecipherable]. [undecipherable] I Shall have at least twenty four hours & little [undecipherable] a picked thirty. Capt Wachtel has Repeatedly Made [application] to me for Clothing. I have written him [undecipherable] letter by which his resignation has been made [undecipherable], Three thousand four hundred [undecipherable] of the N. Indians together & found [undecipherable] letter about [undecipherable] all forwarded. I Report the Indians made [undecipherable] from a [undecipherable] party of Men & 40 to 50 Officemen being the Men dispersed and seven of them Killed by a party of [undecipherable] under [undecipherable] Bull.
