[Henry Knox,
May 23. 1792]
Philadelphia 23 May 1792
My dear Sir
I must request your pardon for not answering your letter of the 10th before this time, although I did not receive it until the 13th. But since that period besides being extremely pressed upon public business I have mostly been confined to my bed with an intermitting, or something fever, which I took last year in the neighbourhood of this city.
I have accepted your bill in favor of John Lawrance for 1000 Dollars, and which [sum] you advanced to Madame Laval on my account—
Besides I have paid at Mr Davis's and Mr LaRoche's [undecipherable] to Mr Bancel Mr Dep[res?]'s agent— 50 Dollars
To Peter Has[enputs?] the German Agent of [undecipherable] 50 D[ollars?]
Madame Laval [undecipherable]
To Mr Dep[leisins?] Madame La Val's Agent 93. 54. Dollars
To Mr Chamberlain, his brother of the [undecipherable]
[Revenue?] [amount?]— 10.
for all which you must please to credit me in the accounts of the Company.
I will endeavor to be in New York by early as possible Mr [undecipherable]'s approaches and can be much before the 10th of June. I cannot leave here until the Regiments return, and perhaps not immediately after it—
If Mr [undecipherable] cheap[?], Sir— he willing to relinquish any interest on the last purchase between the Schooharie and [Bondisper?], to the north of the million purchase [undecipherable], but to also the interest on all the purchases to be continued after it.
For the [undecipherable] [sum?] of my [undecipherable] advances to Madame Laval or [multiple?] [determined?] Dollars
upon when I [have?] be in New York where I am highly desirous of placing on this account.
I am my dear Sir
Yours Sincerely
Knox
