Dear General
I have received your letter of the 6th [inst.] inst. It must have remained several days in the post office as it did not come to hand untill yesterday. Genl Brooks informs me, he has declined accepting the Brigadiers Commission. Such has been offered him. As an acceptance of this appointment will entirely change all my present prospects, in life, and being an object of very great consequence to me, I flatter myself you will not deem it an improper delay, in not giving a decided answer untill the next post.
