Sir
In compliance with your desire of the 4th Instant 260 Approved Rifes are carefully packed in Cases and await the Arrival of a Waggon from Philada to transport them to Fort-Mc— the waggon is expected here this Week —
of the 20 Rifes presented by letter after unboxing and thoroughly examining every face 30 new Approvals, and a Certificate has bin given in consequence. the Remaining 8 could not be mared in their then Mark — I have the best reason to Apure you that you can depend on haveing the number now on hand Augmented to 1130 perhaps a few more by 1st July, Lancaster & York Counties and those of a Superior quality, I understand there are but two Rife Makers in Car-lisle & that they would not pass muster here, for which reason I have not applied there —
P.S. Would it not be well to have all the Rifes packed in Cases for transportation as they Come in?
