Sir —
Captain Hendricks, the bearer, and his Brother, having been themselves convinced of the moderation and Justice of the intentions, of the United States towards the hostile Indians, propose attempting to display the same to the said Indians —
Captain Hendricks proposes obtaining a passport in a Canoe from Buffaloe Creak. He will show you his instructions. As it is of great importance there should be no delay or impediment on his going forward; I request that you would accompany him to Buffaloe Creek, and stimulate his instant departure.
The horses which Captain Hendricks and his brother have, will be delivered to you, together with the saddles & bridles — all of which you will sell for the most they will fetch, and charge yourself with the proceeds, and inform me of the amount thereof. —
I am,
Sir
with great respect
your humble servant
