I presume General Brooks has accepted & will accept the brigadiers commission offerd him. He had some doubt which you probably removed by the letter I wrote him by the last post. But notwith standing my expectations, it may be otherwise.
If therefore he should decline explicitly, of which you may be acquainted by him, I am authorized to offer you by him, I am authorized to offer you that you may succeed him, and if you accept I request that you would hasten to this City with all possible dispatch preferred to go millward.
