It is with the highest satisfaction I inform you of the receipt of your letter of the 12 Inst. notifying me of my appointment to a Company in the 2 Regiment of the United States, together with my commission & instructions, of which I embrace the earliest opportunity to inform you of my acceptance — I shall make every exertion to fill the Company, and to discipline them — I very sensibly feel the obligation you have conferred on me by, the appointment of Lt.
