War-department, 4th April 1791
Sir.
Your favoral letter to the 16th of February have been received. The constant intimations in all your letters prior to January and by all verbal information of your intention of returning home, and the constant expectation of your family and myself of seeing you hourly has prevented my writing to you.

All the preparations for the campaign are going forward here with all possible dispatch.
Whether you are, or are not reappointed, I shall expect that you will use all possible caution in making every preparation which can be made at Fort Washington.
I am Sir,
with great Esteem,
