Fort Washington 15 March 1792. Sir, Your letter of the 1 Inst^t came to hand, the 8^th the Posts having only five days Postage from Pittsburgh to this Garrison. I was induced on Opening the Packet forwarded by you not to find a line to any Subject — any Situation for want of information of the manner Government are pursuing, a mean to pursue, is truly disagreeable, every thing is expected from me as usual — Although the Magazine is known to be estimated, and the Country can yield no Supplies — I am anxiously waiting on the Answer from your Palace — the Boats you are Ordered to have made, will Some of them at best be for the Transportation of Horses — if so, you know my Sentiments relative to their formation — they should be Sixty feet long, Twelve feet broad — the troughs fixed in the Middle of the Boat, and to Extend as far as the Horses can be permitted to reach, without incommoding the Boats that attends them, it works the Boat — Along side of the [undecipherable] Oars, Men's should be made for the forage on top, to Support the Horses during their Passage. — A Boat thus constructed & furnished will well accommodate thirty two Horses, if bring them to this have fit for immediate Service on their Arrivals.
