[Wrote to Caleb Swan, March 11, 1792] Fort Washington, March 4. 179[2] Sir, In obedience to your letter of the 11^th January, last, I proceeded on the 24^th of the same to Kentucky, unattended, at the times & places, previous by pointed out in my Advertisement, to pay off the militia of that district who served in General St. C.lair's expedition against the Indians in 1791. The claimants attended very generally, and the amount I have paid is 2946⁷⁰/100 dollars — a balance of 536⁷⁰/100 dollars, remains due to sundry absentees, and the legal hires and representations of those killed on the Campaign, those two sums being 3483³²/100 dollars, is the precise amount of the Abstracts. — I have reason to expect most of those unpaid will apply at this place, by their attorneys or assignees for the balances yet due them. — While in Kentucky, I also advanced 103 dollars to wounded and distressed Lives agreeably to your letter of advice of 19.
