Capt Baldwin Set off from Fort Franklin on the 24 & Expected to [undecipherable] the [undecipherable] at two [undecipherable] from [undecipherable] — take him along with him. I have Contracted for thirty Boats to be delivered part of May at this place, Each of which will carry forty thousand [undecipherable] — The Boats that were purchased last year for the like use were found to be too contracted for carrying [undecipherable] on [undecipherable] Loading — being too narrow for two horses, & Unnecessary wide for one to stand a cross — I have therefore directed them to be built [undecipherable] feet wider — By fifteen feet & Stronger than those made in Kentucky — Ten of those Boats can be got Sooner if wanted — the other twenty Shall be ready in due time. The Post is just arrived, but as he [undecipherable] has not more than an hour — have only time to acknowledge the Receipt of your favor of the 15 Ultimo.
