Sir/
I have received your letter of the 10th Inst together with an estimate of the Works executing at Fort Pitt — It will be necessary for you to inform me in due season of the terms of payment.
I shall examine the estimate at leisure; it really appears beyond my conceptions of the expence but it may all be necessary —
I have had an established confidence as well in your integrity as in your zeal to promote the public service nor have I any reason to change it
The magnitude of the Work, and the expence may have been necessary, the latter especially, as the people have thought proper to raise 50 pr Cent upon the necessary [strikethrough: improvements] materials
I shall continue to rely upon a continuance of your services.
I am Sir,
your Most Obedt Servt
[Knox]
Major Isaac Craig
