Sir, I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Excellency's letters of the 5^th and 20^th inst. — the latter of which accompanied the accounts and vouchers for certain, expences incurred and paid by Virginia for the defensive protection of Kentucky in the early part of the year 1791. These accounts are in train of examination, which will be shortly finished and the result transmitted to you — In the mean time Sir you may rest assured, that the President of the United States will order such measures to be taken thereon, as shall be conformable to the Constitution, and laws of the United States, and the equity of the case, as far as his powers may be competent to the occasion.
