War Department,
27th January 1792
Sir
I have received your Letters of the 15th and 20th Instant together with a plan of the Works —
I really did not expect that you would have made So extensive a work, nor did Tender any Such thing. I do not understand why you do not send forward estimates, by which I may form a judgment of the expence — This is important, and you must do it —
Confidence in your character has been the reason of my reposing So much [strikethrough: trust] in you, and I shall flatter myself that you will not give me any cause to think it misplaced —
[marginalia: But Sir] but you [strikethrough: you] will finish the 1 Block houses and Barracks on the Site No 2, and also the third Block house, and the Pallisadoes round the whole — I think a Magazine of Turtles will be better than any other —
I Shall direct the Paymaster to Send you Two hundred Dollars by this post — But
remember

This document was one of those. The page containing the extract drawn from this document is attached as an "other copy." Note the difference between the extract and the full copy of the document.
