Heard informs he paid for 10 Horses average at 120 dollars = 1200 10 Men bounty of 20 dolls ——————————————— 200 Keeping the Horses Subsist. of the Men & [undecipherable] [undecipherable] for enlisting [undecipherable] it appears by Capt Hopkins A/cs that he has charged for all the Horses & Bounty for Men [strikethrough: and] [strikethrough: undecipherable] the[y] fore [undecipherable] that Capt. Hopkins is accountable for the Monies charged to Capt. Heard by [undecipherable] (Maj. Clin— Capt. Heard after he has settled his accounts with Capt. Hopkins at Baltimore Novemb. 18. 1791 [signature] Remarks on Major Daved Hopkins A/cs Settled with the U States for pay as Major in the 1 Reg L Dragoons — Credits 120 dollars rec'd in 1782 of the US this is a mistake the Sum should be 100 dols rec'd of Lt. [undecipherable] [undecipherable] to the 4^th Reg. — therefore 20 dols too much — also he Credits 240 dols rec'd of the US in 1793 this is also a mistake as I do not find any where against him for that Sum — it should have been Credited the State of Penns^a as he rec'd 275 dols from that State being 5½ Mos pay so that: 15 dols still up to him to his Debit. to be [undecipherable: probable reading oppos'd] either to his [undecipherable] or to his [undecipherable] A/cs now produced, for Settlement — If necessary he write to Major Hopkins and the letter to Baltimore — Commission dated [signature] the 26 Dec 1782 as Major of the 1 Reg of L.D. Rank the [undecipherable] 1781 — [undecipherable] in the [undecipherable] — Notes Major Hopkins A/c rec'd [undecipherable] 30 Major Hopkins informs the— Reciepts for Ten Horses are not up — to apply to Capt. John Heard then act for their Reciept as he purchased the Horses [undecipherable] [undecipherable] Major Hopkins [undecipherable] with the State (Mary[undecipherable]) for [undecipherable] Sums, [undecipherable] by him for [undecipherable] [undecipherable] for [undecipherable] public Monies in his hands.
