Sir Mrs Benn Huntington [Jr]
Mrs [undecipherable], an acquaintance, and friend of mine, [undecipherable]
interested me to write a few lines to you in her behalf.
I have seen her letter, and [undecipherable] her, she has not left
any thing for me to say on the subject, but write I [undecipherable: will]
She is truly a deserving woman who has been
unfortunate — and stands greatly in need of the [undecipherable: attention]
of a country, in whose service, she has been [undecipherable: deprived]
of two friends, dearer to her than all the riches, the
country is [undecipherable] — She has relations [undecipherable]
[undecipherable] — but no friends, at least none among [undecipherable: her]
connections — her merit has made her many friends
who would do any thing in their power to serve her —
but it remains alone with Congress and yourself
to render the [undecipherable: tenor] of her life comfortable
A state of dependance is bitter, to a feeling mind
I doubt not you will do her Justice, tis all she [undecipherable: wishes]
[undecipherable] Mrs [undecipherable] forgiving the runaway, who without any
cause, Eloped from her bed and board, — I freely
acknowledge it had the appearance of great [undecipherable: rudeness], and
I have no apology to make but sickness — I was indeed
very unwell all night — please to present my affectionate
regards to Mrs [undecipherable] and accept what is due to yourself from
[undecipherable] Huntington
