Sir,
I have received your letter of the 7th instant. I have directed the paymaster to place in your hands, your pay up to the first of the present month; and also as much money as will repay the money you state to have advanced to recruits.
You mention to have opened a rendezvouz at West-Chester. I can give no concurrence to any expences for which you have not been expressly authorized; the two dollars bounty is regarded as full for all expences in inlisting a recruit.
The precise expence of the rendezvous you mention may be stated, but I cannot pledge myself for its allowance.
You are to continue to assist captain Smith to raise his company, the rendezvous for which, is in future to be at West-Point; at which place either captain Smith or one of his officers must actually remain to take care of the recruits.
I am Sir
Your Humble Servant
