Capt Smith is still in the Recruiting Service on Long Islands — I inclose you a Return of the Recruits I have deliverd him am unhappy to inform you that three of them have deserted our force very last Return — Capt Smith had first them under Mr Manig's care at Governors Islands and notwithstanding his attention they have found ways to depart from — I am not without hopes of obtaining some of them again if we are so fortunate we wish to make examples of them agreable to the Martial Law to deter others from the like Crime —
