Ludlow Fort Washington September 4^th 1791 [338] to Major General S^t Clair In consequence of your letter directing me to furnish the means for transporting the Supplies of the Army on the present expedition I have purchased the following number of pack horses viz 636 have been unfortunate enough to loste dead, Strayed or Stolen 21 have crossed the Ohio & now for Service 635 have furnished 639 Bags and. linen. for making others as p^r account enclosed. I have enclosed a general account of what I have furnished with the cost annexed. I Have also employed Brigade Masters and pack horse drivers the whole expence of which cannot be ascertained but at the expiration of their Services. I have also employed eight teams for the purpose of transporting provisions to the first place of deposit their service will be continued occasionally till our Brigades of pack horses are so arranged that no want of punctuality will take place in the periods affixed for moving.
