Fort Pitt 5 Septem^r 1793 Dear Sir I am Very happy in the Account you give of your Trip to Wheeling, & make no doubt but the Remaining part of your Journey will be as agreeable — The Boat I had engaged on the River, on detained by want of Water to float them to this place — In order therefore to Transport Capt Newman detachment, I have been under the necessity of applying to Gen^l Nevill for a Boat, that he intended to have loaded with Provisions, which he was so Obliging as to let me have on Condition of my procuring him one of the same dimention as soon as possible — That together with one other is Sufficient for Capt Newman — but not to carry any Considerable quantity of Store in addition — I have therefore sent only one large Bale of Store, & a few other Articles, which probably may be wanted, I wished also to have forwarded 20 Barrels powder, that have Lately come to hand — but find it must be postponed, till next detachment comes forward — I have inclosed an Acct of Cloathing delivered at this Post, it is probable, it may be of Use, as a Check on future application for Cloathing — All Swan Arrived in time for a letter to go by Post — Capt Newman will deliver you the Packet brought by Post Together with Pittburgh Papers — Craig has Returned the Gray Mare, find that a Stray Pack Horse has been brought in — I have engaged Bery Cumings as Pilot for Capt Newman, I believe his Ability as Pilot, is nearly equal to, being a Adam — his Character otherway very fair, he is to be paid five pounds P^r Month, till his Return, therefore he ought to be dispatched from Fort Washington as soon after his Arrival as possible — General Knox writes, that Capt Buell may be expected the 10^th Inst with 100 men — from the present appearance of the River Rising, Capt Newman has Concluded to wait 100 days — or some people has persuaded him, that he will not loose time by it — Gen^d Nevill and M^r Craig present their Rapects to you — Sam Dear Sir with Sentiments of Sincere Esteem Your Obt Hum^e Serv^t Sam^l Hodgdon Esq^r 2 M^y — Isaac Craig — [See page 47, letter dated 8^th Septem^r Should be entered here]
