Sir,
I have yours 22d Inst by last Post, and am to thank you for your polite attention. I should have acknowledg'd this by return, but had to compare the Analysis [herewith] sent with Colo Carrington's [undecipherable] and this could not be done in time. Should any inaccuracy escape me, my haste will apologize for that and the writing in which it is said.
As soon as they are printed I will furnish Your Office with a fair Copy; in the mean while this will be found more correct than the first Copy which [The [undecipherable] I found it [undecipherable: necessary?] to alter.] I gave the President a — I have enter'd the Copy Right of this performance, as the Law directs; it is my wish to make this as useful as possible; and if You concur in it as an object of publication in Philadelphia it will oblige me if yourself, or Mr Jefferson, can spare time to put the exclusive right of publishing (in that City) in the hands of a proper Person to print it in the English and German; allowing his pay=ments from the first productions, or a proportionate Share of the several continuance.
Should Gent [undecipherable], or any useful draft turn up, I will thank Gent Knox for the perusal; and shall be allways happy to reciprocate good Offices with him on his [undecipherable].

P.S. The Post hour will not allow me time to inclose a Copy which I have prepared for Mr Jefferson; or to finish my letter to Him by this conveyance.
