Wm Tatham Capitol in Richmond Virginia.
31st July 1791.
Sir,
I have yours 22d Inst by last Post, and am to thank you for your [polite] attention. I should have acknowledg'd this by return, but had to compare the Analysis [herewith sent] with Colo Carrington's [paper?] and this could not be done in time. Should any [inaccuracy] escape me, my haste will apologize for that and the writing in which it is said.
As soon as they are printed I will furnish your Office with a fair Copy; in the mean while this will be found more correct than the first Copy which [strikethrough: The first [undecipherable] I found it [undecipherable] after [undecipherable].] I gave the President; I have enter'd the Copy Right of this performance, as the Law directs; it is my wish to make this as useful as possible; and if you conceive it an object of publication in Philadelphia, it will oblige me if yourself, or Mr Jefferson, can spare time to put the exclusive right of publishing (in that City) in the hands of a proper Person to print it in the English and German; allowing his pay-ments from the first productions, or a proportionate share of the several [continuance?].
Should Genl Service, or any useful draft turn up, I shall thank Genl Knox for the perusal; and shall be allways happy to reciprocate good Offices with him or his department.
I am Sir Yr Ot Servt [undecipherable]
P.S. The Post hour will not allow me time to inclose a Copy which I have prepared for Mr Jefferson; or to finish my letter to Him by this conveyance. I hope by next [Ways?] to forward them and advise him of several other Works in hand: on which I wish to consult him, as the Public Interest will be concerned in my arrangements. will Thank Genl Knox to mention this with my sincere compls
